Those last few days before a haircut can be a nightmare when you are trying to tame the dishevelled mess in front of the mirror. So spare a thought for your canine friends who are waiting months to secure an appointment to get their hair and nails done.

Pet grooming salons are struggling to find trained workers and it is hoped a new traineeship will make a dent in the problem.

Participants will get on-the job training and will be supported by South Metropolitan TAFE.

Akash Fotedar headed out to one salon and spoke with President of the Dog Groomers Association of Western Australia Shai-Marie Cheyne.
